Pilar (pronounced pēla`r) is the name given by famed author Ernest Hemmingway to his prized possession 38-foot Playmate fishing boat built in 1934, and curiously, to his wife. Hemingway who first came across the ‘Pilar’ in Zaragoza, Spain, was forever captivated by the name, and by the way of life.
